Famous NBA star, center from the Houston Rockets, Dwight Howard was caught cheating by using stickum spray. On March 20th vs the Atlanta Hawks, power forward from the Hawks, Paul Millsap, complained about the ball being sticky while shooting free throws. After Paul Millsap complained about the sticky ball the referees warned each bench and were lead to the scorers table were a can wrapped with white tape was found. The can was removed and then the referee told the scorer to alert him if the can was seen again. Stickum spray is a Grip Spray, and is an adhesive for hands and equipment. Stickum spray helps improve grip, even in wet conditions. Stickum spray is a substance mostly used in football for wide receivers to give them extra grip to catch a pass that is thrown down the field. However in the NBA this spray is illegal and prohibited. Besides there is really no advantage in using stickum spray for basketball because it can mess up your shot and can affect other players as well. The only reasonable explanation that this spray could be an advantage for basketball is for getting rebounds. Dwight Howard was caught and said he didn't understand what all the fuss was about. He also said that many other players use sprays and powders on their hands during games. Howard admitted to using stickum spray when he said, "I’ve been using the spray for the last five years....I never hid the spray. I never did anything to try to hide what I was doing. It was just something to make my hands dry." He is not being charged with a penalty or fine but is under review. Do you think that he is a cheater? If he has been using this spray for five years and has only been caught once, is it really that big of a deal?
